Comet C/2009 G1 (STEREO) was announced on 9 april 2009 and discovered by Jiangao Ruan from China who found this 10th magnetude comet on images taken by SECCHI HI-1B instrument on board on one of the STEREO spacecraft . He found this possible comet in data from 5-the april.
The 2 STEREO satellites study the sun and environment. Comet C/2009 G1 (STEREO) by Erik Bryssinck Since the data is found on images of the spacecraft, the name of the comet is been named to the spacecraft, in this case STEREO. Comet C/2009 G1 is the 20 discovered comet with STEREO. Just a couple of hours after the release of the initial orbit of C/2009 G1 (STEREO), it was located from the ground by Japanese astronomers, just a few arc-minutes from its predicted location! The orbit was updated to reflect these observations and released on MPEC 2009-G32.  Afrho Plot of Comet C/2009 G1 (STEREO) The Belgian CARA member Erik Bryssinck could take a ground based image of this comet in astronomical twilight from Australian remote telescope, RAS Moorook observatory on 10 april and was one of the first ground based images of this comet. It is a small and diffuse comet with no tail at that moment. It is remarkable because this comet is the first one who has ground based observed, none of STEREO's other nineteen discoveries have been ground-observable at all.
