New comet P/2010 H2 Print E-mail
Written by Giannantonio Milani
Sunday, 18 April 2010

A new objec was discovered on the 16 of April at the Crni Vrh Observatory. It appeared very soon to be a new periodic comet, designed P/2010 H2, in an outburst phase.

Giovanni Sostero and Ernesto Guido were among the first to report the cometary nature of the object.

Af[rho] quantity measurements in R and/or I bands are urgently needed to monitor the evolution of the event. Hipparcos solar analogs are highly recommended as reference stars.

Comet C/2009 G1 (STEREO) Print E-mail

Friday, 01 May 2009
Comet C/2009 G1 (STEREO) was announced on 9 april 2009 and discovered by Jiangao Ruan from China who found this 10th magnetude comet on images taken by SECCHI HI-1B instrument on board on one of the STEREO spacecraft . He found this possible comet in data from 5-the april. The 2 STEREO satellites study the sun and environment.

Since the data is found on images of the spacecraft, the name of the comet is been named to the spacecraft, in this case STEREO. Comet C/2009 G1 is the 20 discovered comet with STEREO. Just a couple of hours after the release of the initial orbit of C/2009 G1 (STEREO), it was located from the ground by Japanese astronomers, just a few arc-minutes from its predicted location! The orbit was updated to reflect these observations and released on MPEC 2009-G32.

Current Targets Print E-mail
Written by Carlo Vinante
Sunday, 08 February 2009
Current main targets are comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko and C/2007 N3 (Lulin), but potentially all the other observable comets of the period are interesting (e.g. 29P, 144P, 116P, C/2006 OF2, C/2006 W3, and others).
For the two main targets the use at least of R and/or I filter is highly suggested, and for C/2007 N3 narrow-band photometry and imaging it is also encouraged.
